I graduated from the University of Manchester in 2007 and trained on the North West Thames T&O rotation. I am a Consultant in North West London. 

I have previously undertaken the Wrightington Upper Limb Fellowship as well as a shoulder and elbow fellowship at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. 

I have been a dedicated committee member of the Orthopaedic Network since 2014, organising previous Orthopaedic Network ST3 Interview and FRCS VIVA courses. I relish teaching and look forward to helping the next batch of juniors to obtain training numbers and the seniors to cross the hurdle that is the FRCS exit exam

Sami Hassan

Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon - Hand and Wrist

I graduated from the University of Sheffield with BMed Sci (Hons), MB ChB in 2006. I was awarded the Professor Richard Wood Travelling Fellowship from the Sheffield Vascular Institute which enable me to spend part of my intercalated research year at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA.I trained on the esteemed East Midlands North rotation achieving CCT in 2017.

My interests are Hand and Upper Extremity surgery, and I am a member of the BSSH. I have been awarded their prestigious Travelling Fellowship in 2015 visiting the Robert A. Chase Hand Centre, Stanford University, USA. I have completed a pre-CCT fellowship at the Pulvertaft Hand Unit, Derby.

My interests outside of work are focussed around my family. I am married with 2 children and we love to travel abroad, experiencing the world’s beauty. I am a sports enthusiast, with cricket and football dominating any spare time available which includes the mighty Liverpool FC.

I graduated from the University of Manchester with my primary Medical degree in 2004. Since then I have been pursuing a career in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery, having achieved my CCT in 2016. I have been the Sir John Charnley Arthroplasty fellow at Wrightington hospital, previously. I have been involved with teaching and educating throughout my career, acting as mentor to medical students and junior doctors. Teaching by example is my motto. I am particularly interested in prosthetic joint infections. I believe as training becomes ever more streamlined we will become more reliant on emerging technologies such as Virtual reality and holographic simulators.

I qualified from the University of Manchester in 2004, completed my orthopaedic training in the North-West of England and subsequently gained CCT in 2016. I then undertook prestigious fellowships at both Wrightington Hospital and then the Pulvertaft Hand Centre. I currently sub-specialise in Hand & Upper Limb Surgery at the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. I am a father of three boisterous boys, enjoy travelling and exploring different cultures and cuisines.

I attained my medical qualification from the University of Leeds in 2007. I have been involved in numerous charitable endeavours including the Anthony Nolan trust and supporting disaster relief operations. My educational interests have spanned from establishing national career fairs for medical students, invited speaker by the Royal college, medical schools and lead faculty on numerous courses. My passion for education has led me to pursue a Masters in Medical education.

As a founding member of the Orthopaedic Network, I am proud to be part of a team that strives to support charities through high quality educational courses. As past secretary and webmaster, my role involved organisation of the network and chairing quarterly meetings. One of my key achievements have been leading the Orthopaedic Network at the inception and running of the yearly ST3 interview course in Yorkshire.

I graduated in 2010 with MBChB from the University of Leicester, after intercalating in University College London (UCL) in Orthopaedic Science (BSc) in 2009. I became an ST3 on the Coventry and Warwickshire Orthopaedic Specialist Training Programmer (West Midlands Deanery) in 2015 and am currently a ST8 level orthopaedic trainee.

I successfully completed my FRCS (Tr & Orth) in 2020 and am due to CCT in 2021. My interests are Trauma and Arthroplasty and I am hoping to undertake 2 fellowships in these subspecialty areas.

I have a strong interest in teaching which stemmed through my time as a Medical School demonstrator and tutor for Leicester Medical School as part of the Academic Foundation Programme. I am also an ATLS instructor and teach on both ATLS and BSS courses nationally.

I had previously been a delegate for the Orthopaedic Network ST3 interview and FRCS viva courses, and was successful on the back of both these fantastic courses. I am honoured to be part of a dynamic and enthusiastic team within the ON and look forward to being part of its future.

I am an alumni of the University of Birmingham having graduated with MBChB in 2014. I did both my foundation and Core Surgical training in North West of England. I have recently completed an MSc in Orthopaedic Trauma sciences at QMUL and will undertake a PGCert in Medical Education during my ST4/5 year. I have a keen interest in medical teaching and boosting morale within the NHS, having found and run the North West Core Surgical interview course for the past 5 years, raising money for charity. Outside of work, I enjoy road trip adventures, fitness and play tennis for my local club.

I have recently joined the Orthopaedic network and feel very privileged to be part of this great committee!

Mobeen Qureshi

I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2015 with MBChB. I did my foundation years in the west of Scotland and followed by Core Surgical training in the North West of England. Since graduating I have obtained a MSc in Orthopaedic Trauma Sciences from the Queen Mary University of London in 2019.

I have previously been a delegate at the Orthopaedic Network ST3 interview course, after which I was successful in obtaining a training number in the North West. 

Outside of work I like to cycle and hike as well as doing general DIY projects wherever possible!

Arham Qureshi

ST6 Registrar Trauma and Orthopaedics, West Midlands Deanery - Coventry and Warwickshire Rotation

I graduated from the University of Cambridge with an MB BChir MA in 2016. Throughout Medical School I have had an interest in charitable pursuits including co-founding the Cambridge Marrow branch of the Anthony Nolan Trust. I completed an Academic Foundation Programme and Core Surgical Training Programme in the West Midlands deanery and have started my Registrar training in the same region.

 

Since graduation, my enthusiasm for education has led me to gaining a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education with Distinction from Cardiff University. I have also pursued my interest in Orthopaedics gaining a Masters Degree in Surgical Sciences from the University of Edinburgh. Therefore, ON aligns perfectly with my interests and I look forward to contributing to develop the network. Outside of work I enjoy Music, playing the flute, guitar and ukulele as well as travelling.

Usama Rahman

NIHR ACF - Royal London Hospital Orthopaedics & Trauma Society

Usama is an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery on the Royal London Hospitals Orthopaedic Training Scheme (RLHOTS). He aims to develop evidence at the interface of surgery and public health to improve surgical outcomes regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Having completed a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), he is interested in using routine health data to enable quicker and better decision making for surgeons and policy makers whilst bringing to the fore, consideration of wider determinants of health in surgery. At LSHTM, he used routinely collected data from the World Health Organisation to analyse the effect of road traffic laws on the epidemiology of road traffic collisions in over 25 countries.

 

Graduating from medical school in 2017, he was awarded a prestigious NIHR Academic Foundation Programme in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Warwick where he was a trial co-ordinator and lead author for the Patellar Instability: Physiotherapy or Surgery feasibility RCT. He also worked with industry partners on the ExACT trial and with Professor Andy Metcalfe on the START:REACTS trial investigating the efficacies of novel implants in orthopaedic surgery.

Usama was born at The Royal London Hospital and joins the team at Barts from the run-through Trauma and Orthopaedic programme in the West Midlands having ranked in the top-10 nationally for Core-Surgical Training. Whilst in Birmingham, he was part of a multi-disciplinary team that won almost £100,000 in funding to investigate avoidable determinants of readmission for patients suffering from neck of femur fractures as part of the ARTHUR study and helped design the Patient-Public Involvement (PPI) component of the study.
